I read in another forumn that a big pile of bait isn't natural for deer, and it makes them skiddish which leads to the night feeding.

It was suggested that the bait be spead out over a bigger area so it more like acorns that havefallen from trees, still in a concentrated area but not just in one big heap of bait.
