Thats why, when using a drag rag, you have to refresh it every little bit. If not then it is stronger at the start of the drag and weaker as you get closer to your stand site. And when it is like that, the buck will follow the trail towards the strongest scent, which is away from your stand back towards the start of your drag.
I confirmed this fact one day with a deer dog. I used a drag rag, and the dog kept trying to follow it away from my stand back to where I started, because that was the direction of the strongest scent. Which was directly away from where I wanted him to go. And, I have also seen bucks follow the reverse trail. So refresh often during the drag to bring them TO your stand instead of away from it.
