As much as YOU thank your neighbor, I bet it would mean the world to him if your son wrote him a thank you letter, in his own words and penmanship. Good neighbors are hard to come by, thankfully I've got a couple as well.
Great idea. Also I like the idea of leaving it better than before. This will also teach your son about values and that there are good people out there who care and will help him. Wonderful oportunity for hunting and learning.
BTW, is the house on the other side of your neighbor for sale? hehehe
