I own two pair of binoculars Nion ATB 8*42 and Swarovski 8*32. There is no comparison and the price reflects the superior quality of the Swarovskis. In low light they are amazing and the long distance clarity is unmatched by the Nikons. However, a friend has a pair of the 10*50 pentax DCF-WP. There is little distinguishable difference between them and the Swarovskis; especially in normal light conditions and only looking 100 yards. One of the best sights for pricng the binoculars is AAAcamera.com I have not found anyone who can beat their pricing. The Pentax 8*42 are $264.00. If money is an issue, I'd look hard at the Pentax. Bottom line, buy the best you can afford,take care of them and they will be worth every penny
