It depends on what you want to spend, too. Cantilever deer barrels are expensive and aren't usually included with combo packages like the 870 Express shown above.

If you want the cantilever rifled slug barrel your best bet is probably to just buy the shotgun you want with that barrel and then buy a separate vent rib barrel with it. If you buy them at the same time from the same dealer you might be able to talk him into shaving a little off the price of the second barrel, too.

I'm in the market for a new shotgun right now and right now the Browning BPS Hunter is at the top of my list. If I were looking for a deer gun I'd be strongly considering the BPS Cantilever Game gun.


All of the BPS shotguns are quality made proven guns and everyone I know who has one doesn't have a bad thing to say about theirs. Many on this forum also seem to hold them in high regard, as well.

I'd also recommend the Remington 870's. I grew up shooting my dad's 870 Wingmaster 20 gauge, and it's 35 years old and has had literally thousands of shells fired through it and it still works like it was brand new. If you want to save some money, the 870 Express Combo package is a good buy. The 870 Express isn't much to look at and, but they are mechanically identical to their nicer counterparts and will do the job nicely. I personally like my shotguns shiny, and I'm willing to pay a little extra for a nice blued gun with a walnut stock.
