RE: 44 Mag
I've hunted the .44 mag in a Marlin 1894 rancher and a Ruger Super Blackhawk, out of both, I've used some factory loads, and a lot of handloads. My favorite factory load was a 240 gr Winchester SUper X jacketed softpoint, they'd kick a heck of a lot harder than a .44 should, but they pack that much more punch on the other end too. Depending on what rifle you're using, you might be lucky to get any good groups at all with any factory handgun ammo, like my Rancher doesn't do so hot with anything but those Super X's, and I'm lucky to get 3.5" groups at 100 yrds with those out of that 22" barrel, while I can cut that down to 2-" with good handloads. It's even more important in a handgun, but you said rifle, so... Anyway...I also used some PMC's if I remember right, with ALSP's (all lead soft points) they shot fairly well out of my rancher, probably the best other than handloads and Super x's, but I'm not a big fan of lead fouling, so they aren't for everybody.
Screw the 10 ring, keep them in the zero!!!
