Well, I was finally able to connect on Monday Oct. 30. I slept in Monday morninig b/c I was tired from working the night before. I headed out for the woods about 1:30 that afternoon and decided to try a new spot where I have seen numerous rubs. I unpacked my climber and set up in the only tree that would give me a decent shot. Well, the tree was too big and my bottom part of the climber kept slipping. So I packed back up and went to the spot I have been hunting for weeks.
It seemed like the worst hunt ever since I was soaked in sweat and just killed 30 minutes for nothing. I finally get setup in my stand and started to wait. About 5:10 I saw a buck about 75 yards out. I have seen him cross at this spot before. I grunted a few times but it didn't affect him. He continued walking ignoring my calls. Iguess he was almost deaf because I let out one loud grunt and he finallystopped right before the crest of the hill. He stood for about 5 minutes and started my way. He messed around in some laurels and was heading the wrong way again. I grunted a couple more times and he was on the right track. I had to let my bow down twice and finally I decided to take a shot. There were two trees about 25 yards from me that had asmall opening that I had to shoot through to get to him. I settled my 30 and 40 yard pin on his chest and squeezed the trigger. He jumped and then walked off. I knew I hit him b/c I saw the arrow's flight.
I gave him 30 minutes and went after him. I jumped him out of his death bed and decided to back out. I drove to my parents (2 hour drive roundtrip) to get my dad andmainly to kill time. We went back after 3 hoursand jumped him again. So I took my dad back home and told him that I would get him the next day.
I found him yesterday morning not more than 20 yards from where I stopped the night before. I should have known not to track him the first time since I didn't hear the death kick.
Its an 8 pointer and I came up with a score of 99 5/8". I hit the top stomach and got one lung. This is my first bow buck.
Sorry to be so long-winded.
