Good day at the range
I finally got a full day to spend at the range. Last year was my first year with a BP and I was only able to shoot out to about 100 yards and I never got the accuracy I had hoped for. I started shooting with 2 pellets of triple 7 and a buffalo bullet company 245 grain jacketed hollow point. I was getting good groups at 50 and 100 yards. I also tried 100 grains of pyrodex powder and it shot a little worse. The pyrodex was filthy and I had trouble loading a second shot. I then tried the pellets again with a 250 shockwave. I fired 4 shots at 100 yards and was more than pleased. 3 shots were under an inch and one was 4 inches high and right. I'd like to think I pulled that one. I was shooting from a broken shooting bench with awarped gun rest. I only had one box of the shockwaves so I shot a few more at 50 and 100 yards with great results. I couldn't wait to try a 200 yard shot. Thats the reason I bought a BP, I live in a shotgun only area and I was hoping to increase my range. I could only set up to shoot 190 yards where I was. I carefully loaded and fired my last two shots. I had a great two shot group of 2 1/2 inches and they were almost exactly 12 inches low and centered under the bull. It worked out to be 2 inches high at 50, dead on at 100 and 12 inches low at 190.
I'm going to buy a few more boxes of shochwaves and hit the range a few more times. I would have liked to try 130 and 150 grains with the shockwave to see what would happen at150 and190 yards. It turned out to be a successful day, I even got my slug gun finally shooting great groups at 100 yards. My shoulder is going to need some time to recover though.
