According to John Trout, author of
Finding Wounded Deer, it's common for lung shot deer tocough in their last few breaths as they suffocate on their own blood. I witnessed this on my first deer. I was only about 25 feet from him when he died so I heard everything he did in his last 2 minutes or so.
