Default RE: Need quick recommendation....

I've used both mechanical and fixed on many turkey. Overall, I think I prefer mechanicals; however I prefer a specific one. Last Friday I shot two turkeys with two different heads within 1 minute of each other. The first I shot with a Simmons RazorShark fixed blade. It went 10 yards, lay down and died in about two minutes. The damage was incredible. The second I shot with a Innerloc EXP expandable, which I've been using for the last year and a half exclusively for turkey, and is subsequently my favorite turkey head. It went 5 yards and died almost immediately. The damage was very respectable as well. However, these distances and times, of course, are subject to shot placement.

The EXP's can be set to a 1 and 1/8 inch cut, or a 1 and 7/16ths inch cut; I had it set on the latter. The reason I am fond of, and suggest them for turkey to as many people that will listen, is that the EXP doesn't use o-rings or bands to hold the blades together. Instead it uses a cam action with clips. This cam action is why I prefer it for turkey. It opens very quickly, but seems to allow the energy of the arrow to be transferred to the bird very well; aiding in putting it down. Take a look at them on their site (www.innerloc.com) and try them out. I think you'd like them; plus they blades are way easier to change than the Spitfires and similar heads.
