Default RE: New Remington 710 rifle

The "Safety Information" doesn't apply to the 710 because it was made after 1982.

The other recall is for rifles made between July and October 2002. It's an OLD recall and unless you bought one used or end up with a 710 that's been sitting in the racks for almost 4 years, it's not a current issue (you can enter your 710's serial number on the site to determine if yours needs a fix).

Remington Arms Company, Inc. is voluntarily recalling a limited number of Model 710 bolt-action rifles as a result of its discovery, during routine test firing, that some Model 710 rifles manufactured between July and October 2002 may have been assembled with an improperly made "Safety Detent Spring."
I don't know if it's true now, but when I bought my 710 three years ago, the guy at Bass Pro said they sold five 710s for every one of the similarly priced Savage guns. Of course, that may be because people who don't know a lot about guns or are just getting started into hunting are at least familiar with the Remington name, so they're willing to spend money on a Remington "starter rifle" over the Savage brand with which they may not be familiar.
