Congrats! What's really eery is that your son looks just like my husband did as a young teen... they could be twins!
That's awesome, I did the same thing with the first deer I shot with my bow too... forgot everything I had learned due to nerves. Unfortunately, I didn't find her.
The second one was a bad shot too, but I ended up recovering him, only 40 yards from where I shot him... I ended up hitting a major artery.
