RE: What bow are you hunting with for 2006 - 2007?
I hunt with a cheap Darton that I got for $200. I've taken a few nice bucks with it. The bow really doesn't make a difference. I shoot with finger tabs and am not all that accurate at ranges over 20 yards. Because I shoot only at point blank range, it really doesn't matter. The absolutely critical factor is not freaking out. When I was younger I always freaked out and was not very successful. Now that I am more relaxed, it and can calmly set up and take shots, I rarely miss. I can't even remember the last time I wounded an animal... I am thinking sometime in the mid 90s. The sad irony is that until you have actually shot a few animals, you really aren't prepared to shoot at animals. The more shooting situations you find yourself in, the less likely you are to wound. I would bet the farm that wound ratios are based more on the maturity of hunter than any other factor. I firmly believe that the bow plays no part. A mature hunter knows the limitations of his bow and of his himself and takes his shots accordingly. With age comes a drop in testorone so that the hunter can control the almost overwhelming urge to take shots at deer that are out of his range.
