Default RE: New Hornady Loads for 45-70

if you go by Hornady's published numbers then you can expect considerably better performance than the old round nose loads.

Heck they (almost?)turn a 30-30 into a legitimate 300 yard deer rifle! Pretty amazing.

You can see the published numbers here:

https://www.hornady.com/shop/?ps_session=ea15560fbdf6b2e6aad1c3e182783170&p age=shop%2Fbrowse&category_id=e2efc3a895f8f600 4aa5509977a8de6e

Compare to Federals 300 grain Speer Hot Core SP.

You should expect 400 ft/lbs more energy at 100 yards and about 200 ft/lbs more at 200 yards. They both fizzle to a little over 1,000 ft/lbs at 300 yards.

They still drop like a rock though.
