The rest operates the same regardless of the arrow that is being shot out of it. When it is locked, it is not as far back as it will go. The way that it releases if by being pulled further back (by a string attached to the cable during the shot) and being released (releasing the shot). When it is released, it springs back forwards, and this forward momentum causes it to fall. It is irrelevant what arrow is on the string.
