Where to Start!!! Want to get rid of.....
I live in the U.P. of Michigan(all the way up north) in a pretty remote area. There are no dog hunters, no coyote hunters, and many coyoties. I think our recent low fawn to doe ratios are a direct result of high coyote populations and I'd like to get rid of as many as possible.
Sometimes, when I am in my stands deer hunting, I will hear up to 5 packs at a time, around me, up to a couple of miles I would guess. We also hear coyotes frequently from inside our house, with the windows closed.
I have 20-some treestands scattered over a mile, all taking advantage of different wind directions, with some offering shots in heavy cover of up to 150 yards.
I think I can use an electronic call in MI., and my main purpose is to harvest as many as possible, without a danger of hurting my beagles I run with on a portion of the property. I think trapping would be out of the question, do to the safety of the beagles. I can also hunt at night, and a few of my stands would be in the 100-150 yard range offering views of open, snow covered food plots-will coyotes go in their to a call at night??
Thanks for the advice!!
