RE: Caliber of Your First Rifle
I cut my teeth on a lot of other peoples rifles, 22's, 30/30's, but my very own first rifle was a 1903 Steyr Mannlicher that had been rebarreled from the original 6.5 X 54 MS to 7 X 57.
Took me weeks of saving to buy it in 1967 for around $70. Still the smoothest bolt I've ever worked. Wears nice express sights only as the split bridge doesn't beg for drilling and tapping. It can be done, but I'm gonna leave the way I bought it.
