Here is the formula:
recoil kenetic energy (KE)
KE=MV^2/GC
M= rifle mass
V = rifle speed as it moves to the rear
GC = the gravitational constant for Earth which is 64.32
To determine rifle velocity (V) = bullet weight(grains)/7000*bullet velocity(fps) + powder weight(grains)/7000*powder gas velocity(fps) = MV
Get powder weight(grains) by pulling bullets and weighing charges.
Gas velocity varies but A-Square loading manuals says that 5,200 fps is a useful average. The 7000 in the forumla simply converts grains to pounds so that the units make sense in the end.
Also remember, KE is not "kick". Felt recoil differs and is influenced by numerous factors including what you ate for breakfast that morning. Ok that last part wasa joke...lol.
