Those guys were pure Jack Asses. Just like the guy that says, "what will a second shot do that the first didn't do".

What do you think the second bullet is going to do that the first one didn't? Other than mess up more meat. Dead is dead. If your first shot was a lethal shot then the deer will die, putting more bullets in it probably won't speed this up any.

Obviously if you miss or make a bad shot you should take a second to finish off the animal. If it stands around long enough for you do it. From what I understand if you gut shoot one it is fairly obvious. They hunch up their back and tend to stand there. Not to mention you would probably see the blood with your scope if you use one. I'm sure if I shot at a deer and just stood there looking at me I would take a second crack at it. I have just never seen this happen. What I won't do is take a shot at a deer and keep throwing lead at it while it runs away.
If others want to that's fine, I'm just not going to do it. Three bullets into the lungs will not kill a deer any faster than one will. Or worse yet one into the lungs, another in the guts and another in the rump. I can normally see where I hit the deer when I make the shot with a gun. With a bow I can actually watch the arrow go thru the deer.
If you don't want to shoot them in the vitals and they don't drop then I guess that is on you and no one else. Don't sit there and argue ethics when you don't want to shoot a deer in the vitals because you want to take that off chance it will drop on the spot. And even if it does drop on the spot and can't move because it has two broken shoulders it still isn't going to die in most cases until it bleeds out.
