THe caliber is large enough for whitetail if that is what you are asking. THe rifle itself is not ideal for hunting, but will suffice. I would not look to take real long shots and probably best to keep a 100 yards or less. If you end up running across a little more money in the future, you may be better served to invest in a different rifle like a .30-30 or .270 or some sort.
