As far as the shot placement, yes it should of been better, hints my expresison; Man, what happened. But, you live and you learn.
Bionicrooster, I though the same thing with the tainted meat. Last year I contracted ecoli possioning. And the doctor said it more than likely came from the bacteria from the deer. The sickness is not a good one and I will spare every on the details.
We did wash this meat and clean it. My personal advise would be to not fool around with this meat or any other meat that was a gut shot unless you find it right after you took it. That bacteria spreads very quickly! especially in warmer weather.
But, this is my opinion. Use caution!
