RE: Poll: Elk Cartridge Preferences
I'm really quite pleased to see a good representation of the 7mm RM. I've always used that cal for everything and it has always lead to success for me.Happy to see it has worked well for almost as many others at the 30-06 and 300 Win Mag. For not being a 30-cal, it still seems to work year after year, just like the 270 and other smaller calibers.
Everytime I think about buying a new rifle I always thing going 30-cal is the right move, but then I realize how much money I have invested in dies, brass, and misc reloading equipment for the 7mm and I just stick with it. I figure for deer and elk and black bears I can't really justify changing to a whole new platform for another .024" in bullet diameter. If I ever go hunt for bigger critters I'll probably step up to a .338 or a .375, maybe bigger if Africa ever becomes an option.
Good luck this fall everyone. I leave today for Idaho for an any bull hunt with my 7mm loaded with 160g Accubonds (handloads). Wish me luck and make sure to check back on these forums for pictures after Oct. 2nd.
