RE: woohoo broadhead xmas!
couldnt agree more greg. neat design...but looks like they did more computer work and phsics etc then anything else. i dont like that colar design to hold the blades. what happens if it comes loose?? ohhh your blades fell off upon impact..and with a head of that design your blades fall out your going pretty much with a BARE shaft through the game. that video of it blowing through a bear and both sides of a 55 gallon drum still amazes me though. he had to have some SERIOUS power behind that and a decint arrow weight. it didnt fly as good as FPs at 15yds anyway.
the Rocky Mountain "premier" i bought used a design similar..its a chisle tip style..but has 3 blade slots on the ferrul. then a little slip colar(doesnt even screw on to the ferrul) holds on the blades. i shoot a right helical..should twist them on tighter. i wont like i hand tightened them(without slicing off my hands lol) and shot at 15yds a couple times. went to put that head back into the quiver and a blade fell off! somehow it came a little loose..blade fell out. i like that head..scarrrry sharp..but that blade fell right out.
since i got the sonic free ill beat it up and see what itll take. the Premiers were close enough to free. cabelas sells them for 30$ for 3..i paid 12. ill use them for stuff i wouldnt wanna dull a muzzy on. groundhogs etc. figure the manufacturers would somehow copy muzzys or come up with another way of locking blades inplace. i just cant see a muzzy loosing a blade unless you hit something you shouldnt have..like a brick chit house..and i bet it would still hold up better then most anything..
