Amen Captain!!!

Just for fun and to share hunting stories, some of my best hunts iswhereI failed.

Take the "log splitter buck" as I named him. It was 2000 hunting season, I had worked a ton of hours opening the Cabela's store in Dundee. I had shot a doe and a buck scored about 110''. I shot him 14th Nov, the last good day to bowhunt in MI. I had to getout of my stand and stalk the deer. Thefarmer had left 10 rows of corn in. I got him on the other side, worked out great, only deer I have killed from the ground. A good year, but I was looking for this really big 8. I did not see him in Nov, and thought he was dead.

Dec 11th I get a day off, I go hunt and it is cold. I had to chip the ice of my stand. At about 20 til 5 I see 25 doe's coming to me. They are walking down the wind row towards me. At this point I know they are going to come by. So I decided to shoot one, then I notice the deer trailing them. Yes it is the 8 pointer, now I am sure I am going to get my shot. I am all setup, the deer about 30 yds out. Then I hear it, my Dad had walked up to his wood pile(200 yds behind me) fired up the log splitter. Before gun season not an issue, but after it causes some issues. All the deer stopped and looked into the woods. Now it is dead quite and it sound like he is right in the woods. The deer walk across the field(other side) and bed down. I climb down and walk in, my Dad is loading up his wood. He ask for some help, I say "Bite me" and go home. Later I told him what happen, he laughed!!
