I just recently purchased another Leupold Vari X II for on one of my rifles. It is a 3-9 x 40 just like two others I have in the gun cabinet right now on other rifles and I only paid $239.99 for it. Just a little bit more money than you said you wanted to spend, to get a really good dependable scope. This one doesn't have all the bells and whistles, just unbelievable clarity and great low light shootability.
