Default RE: PGC MONKEY BUSINESS

Yes "BT" they have done some things right. But only after being critiziced to the point where they had too. As an example I note the reinstatement of the full compliment of pheasants for the youth pheasant hunt. The post christmas stocking. The agency didn't do it because they realized their mistake, they did it because of the hunters outcry.

In the past They introduced the sichuan pheasant to try to make up for the ringneck loss. Unfortunately the program failed, but not at the fault of the agency. The bird was simplynot suited.

The vast majority of PGC employees are a very dedicated lot. It's the management that has failed them. Just the fact that the agency refused to cut the prescribed 1% of it's timber which rendered the agency a loss of $10 Million Dollars each year for several years is proof of incompentence in management. Ask yourself, why would the agency deliberately deny itself of $10+ Million Dollar$ a year when they are in such desperate need of money, and equipment? PLEASE, ANSWER THAT QUESTION! (Then ask yourself who profits from such actions?)

Why has not the positive results from the Grouse Study been implimented on several suitable Game lands. The study is still ongoing, now at 31 years. HOW LONG MUST WE WAIT TO HAVE THIS PROVEN PLAN IMPLIMENTED ACROSS THE STATE? Keep in mind that PA has 1.4 Million acres of Game lands of which 93% is wooded. Surely there must be someplace where these techniques developed under the Grouse Study could be initiated!

It seems that since the days of Peter Duncan, Don Madl, Vern Ross and now Carl Roe we have seen a major decline in the agency. Pennsylvania was once one of the most progressive states in the Union. Today we are failing and will soon be in bankruptcy, if not already. There is no doubt that DCNR will take over the PGC. Perhaps for the better. I truly wish it would not come about. When it does happen you can be sure that certain individuals in the executive office as well as a great number of Game wardens will be laid off. Whenever there is a takover the winning agency has no need for two department heads. You can guess who will go and it won't be anyone from DCNR.

There is no doubt that the deer herd has been mismanaged. The proof is that several counties have little to no deer while SRA are being overun with excessive numbers. Note that Urban deer management was not addressed until last year. As Marret Grund said, "We dropped the ball with Urban Deer Management" and Cal DuBrock did not disagree! (Ask Isabella.)
Last year Jerry Feaser said that the agency had no deer management plan.

Am I disturbed? Your damn right I am.
Do I blame the executives and Board of Commissioners who allowed Gary Alt toactwithout oversight? Yes I do!
Should I be happy that Chris Rosenberry said that the (Alt) plan was flawed? Perhaps if he had had the fortitude to speak up the deer situation might not be in such bad shape. Unfortunately NO ONE spoke up.

So, here we are today. Our deer herd screwed up. Nowild pheasants. Our pheasant stocking down to 100K birds. (hardly worth going out for) Our Grouse numbers down when we know for a fact that they could be as good as some North Central states. No quail to speak of, and rabbits few and far between.

The agency is much more concerned with elk, elk calf monitoring and now they want to collar fishers.

Oh yeah, the agency is doing just great. They really have a handle on things. Only the handle their holding if on a fetid toilet bowl, and DCNR is gonna flush it for them!
