Default RE: what was your first deer with a bow

My first deer was a yearling doe. I shot in during the rut after missing a 6 point at less than 20 yards. It ran about 5 yards to my left and I hit it on the run. Unfortunately I hit it in the hind quarter and i had to track it over 400 yards before missing it once again and finally putting an arrow through the lungs, but it was well worth it. First year bowhunting and I shot it with an old Bear Whitetail. It was then that I learned the truth about tracking. Being 14 years old I was immature and wanted to give up on the deer after not finding it for some time, but my ol' man wouldn't let me. He taught me the ethics of hunting and taking practical shots that day. If it weren't for him, I would have never got the deer and probably continued to do the same dumb stuff. He taught me that we owe it to our prey to put a good clean shot on it and to never give up on the track as it's Gods creature and they were placed here for us to eat....not to wound and let die.
