BUT a 270 cartridge will chamber in a 280 rifle with very very bad results
Being as the 280 has it's neck pushed foreward a slight .05", there is the slight possibility of case head seperation (though unlikely as the 06 variants have substantial webs), or more likely, poor accuracy and some fireformed .280 brass with a .270 headstamp. A .280 in a 270 is what would be disasterous, and that is why it's designers pushed the shoulder foreward ever so slightly.
very true. and a good point.
i was shootin my 22-250 and 223 once and accidently chambered a 223 the 22-250. the result was a 'click'; but when i realized my mistake it frightened me enough to make a habit of checking headstamps there-after. especialy since i sight in my -06 and 270 at the same time. 10's of thousands of PSI hot gas in my face is not desirable, not ta mention undersized projectiles skipping down my precious bore(270vs-06)...
guess i better cast a vote so i don't hi-jack
i vote 270......the 280 may have an edge in effectiveness, but not in nastalgia. lol
