Yep -

Really there is no such thing as "throw and grow". The plot has to be prepared to have a shot.

Some seeds germinate quickly, and have a chance to out-compete other "weeds". These seeds include Rye & some Brassicas.

The soil needs to be exposed - and really the existing sod should be killed off prior to planting.
