Default Iowa 8 Pointer...

Yesterday everything came together.I got to my
stand at 6:20 am with a hot doe already in the area.
About 50-75 yards from my stand I had 3 bucks
chasing a doe. With the wind in my favor and
some cover between the deer and me, I was able
to get in my stand. Unfortunately, they moved
off in the other direction. A couple hours
later, after having several bucks and does pass
by, a 3 1/2 legged coyote made his way up the hill.
I came to fulldraw...he stopped about 28 yards out..
...I held my 30 yd pin a little low and ZING!
...right over his back, and off he went.<img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>
Must have been the steepness of my shot angle
with the ground falling away so much.<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
Forty-five minutes later a doe and a yearling
were coming up the same trail as the coyote(as
did every other deer this morning, except my buck)
when that doe got to wear the coyote had stopped..
...did she ever jump! After bolting about 10 yards,
she tip toed out of there like she was walking on
glass...with the yearling watching mom's every
move.

At 10:50, (after several more deer, another coyote,
several gobblers, and a bearded hen with them)
the wind was blowing pretty good, making it
difficult to hear. I just happened to look to
my left...15 yards away stood this buck! Talk
about catching me off guard! I was set up between
two bedding areas and he was just moving through.
Fortunately for me, he was 30 yards down wind
of where the first coyote had been and it had
his complete attention. He cautiously moved
towards my stand, never taking his eyes off the
direction that the coyote had been(this was
facing away from me). He stopped 5 yards in front
of my stand and turned directly away, looking
down the hill. Still sitting, I came to full draw
...holding low, I hit the release. I hit a bit
higher than I'd wanted, but by the way he took
off I thought it was a good hit. I heard a crash,
but I didn't see him go down. If we don't see a
deer go down, we back out unless circumstances
dictate otherwise. Four hours later my dad
and I found him 80 yards from where I'd shot him..
...stiffer than a board, but thankfully recovered.

I switched this fall to 4-blade 100 gr. Muzzy's
w/a 1&quot; cut and ACC arrows. With my Q2's current
setup I'm getting 56 lbs. of KE. That being
said I only got 13&quot; of penetration. I've never
taken a shot at that steep of a angle before,
luckily he wasn't directly beneath me. After
seeing what that broadhead did to his vitals,
I've got three words...THANK YOU MUZZY!!! After
washing it off, there's not a nick anywhere on
that BH<img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>.

He's got 5&quot; bases and his G-2's are 12&quot; and
10 1/2&quot;.

Sorry to ramble, but we only get to do this
once a year in Iowa.<img src=icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle>

Who do I e-mail pics to for the Mod. Cup?
Thanks
TB
