one thing I always do is to shoot an arrow in to the ground where the deer was standing when I shot it.It always looks differant from the ground.
Not a bad idea... I usually try to pick out a tree or a shrub the deer was standing next to if I need to and just keep my eye on it until I can get there... But you're right; things look WAAAY different on the ground than when you were up in your stand.
