Default Fellow elk hunters?

I need know what you all think is adequatearrow KE for taking elk. Im trying to help my friend get setup for his first elk hunt. I took a look at his gear and chronographed his arrows and weighed them and put the data through a KE calculator program, his arrows in my opinion just arent producing the KE needed for clean kill on an elk. he's only getting about 52 lbs of KE with the velocity measured from 5 feet. I always felt 60 lbs of KE is at the very least adequate. trying to tell him he needs to lose some of the junk on his string and crank the bow up to 70 lbs is like pulling teath with him. hes dead set on using his bow the way it is.

Maybe if he sees other peoples knowledge on this matter he would be a bit more comfortable with the idea of speeding up his arrows a bit.
