As the others stated, they are a good safety precaution and they can aid in alleviating boredom. Just go to any PA gamelands on one of the Saturdays of any of our deer seasons and leave the radio on scan....you will see what I mean...<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
As long as a person isn't using them to directly aid in taking game...ie.." Hey Joe, a 6 pointer is coming right at you..." then I don't see a problem with them.
