Our hunting club implemented the culling of spikes three years ago after a deer herd specialist presented our area with information showing that good gened bucks usually grow a 4 point or better rack their first year. It also stated that a spike only has a 30% chance of becoming a trophy. I'm still not sure about what grows what but I do know our herd has alot better bucks but I attribute that mostly to doe culling than anything. Does are eating machines and get to the good browse before the bucks get a chance to.
