RE: to many snakes!
I've seen snakes year round while hunting in Florida and Georgia. They will get a little slow on cold mornings and seek a sunny spot to warm up in during the day. 16" or 20" high snake boots are good for protection, but also remember loose fitting pants and jackets are also good protectors. Tight pants make for easy pentration of the venom fangs.
In these cooler months, snakes will seek out warmth. Had a nice size cottonmouth curl up around my thermos of coffee several years back -- I don't sit it on the ground anymore, I hang the thermos off the ground. Rattlers also like warm sleeping bags.
And if you think snake are a problem is the fall/winter, wait to spring gobbler season when they are shedding their skins and in that half-blind state strike at anything.
