I have found that they work amazingly well on immature deer and just ok on an old mature buck. Older deer have thicker skin and the hook doesn't cut as well as with yearlings and such. But I still like mine and will continue using it. No matter what, they save time and are simple to use. I find that they will prevent you from cutting your two fingers off if nothing else.
