When I moved to Illinois a few years ago I was unable to shoot with the regularity I used to, so I opted for something that would compensate for my lack of practice.

I began shooting spitfires about 10 years ago, after having shot Thunderheads for years, and have used them on deer, and the blunt nose version on turkey. Until this year I shot a Proline Point Blank at 70lbs with Gold Tip 55/75's (28") and weight tubes giving me about 10.2 grains/inch with 100 grain spitfires - chronied at 265fps. I was punching thru on deer most all the time. I say most of the time cause I didn't pass thru on last years deer, but it was a sharp down angle shot and it only punched thru the underside - the deer still only went 50 yds.

I started using the XP ProSeries with the cutting head for a little extra punch last year, but overall I can't say definitively it made a difference. I do like the heads very much, great cutting diameter, and very durable. I've never had one come apart.I would recommend them highly, but I have not shot any others, so can't say they are necessarily any better then the other mechs.

I'm of the opinion - If it ain't broke don't fix it!
