RE: Hunting in thunderstorms
Taz--I was going to go back out that afternoon, but #1GW--remember him?--called and asked me to go on some errands with him. Since the weather was supposed to be terrible, I agreed. It WAS too warm, but the rain stopped, the wind died and blew in a favorable direction for the stand I would've been in!!
The next morning started OK, but rain began as soon as I got in place. My porta-roof kept me dry, but the only deer I saw (a 6 point I wouldn't have shot anyway) spotted it instantly convincing me to abandon my stand after 4+ hours in the rain. Didn't go again because of forecasted heavy rain, but of course it stopped with an hour plus of shooting light left.
THIS morning was forecasted for rain again. Getting a bit tired of sitting in downpours with no deer visible had lost it's appeal so I decided to sleep in. OF COURSE there was no rain! I'm supposed to go out this afternoon, but the winds are blowing 20-25 mph and wrong for all but 2 or 3 stands which haven't been very consistant. Oh well, here we go again!
Today's small bucks are tomorrow's trophies.
