The spitfires are one of the better made mechanicals on the market today. I have not personally heard of them not opening upon impact, but have personally seen devistating results on caribou bones with them. The fact that they don't have a ferrul or ring holding the blades in place is supposed to allow for easier opening. I've heard of people lubing the broadhead to allow for easier opening however.
I chose the shockwaves over the spitfires for a couple of reasons. I like the head on the shockwaves more, and I liked the smaller cutting diameter which creates less resistance to open than a larger diameter. The difference between the two heads is 1/4".
I would not hesitate to use them, especially on smaller game such as whitetail deer. I wouldn't count out other heads though such as the Shockwave or Rocky Mountains snyper.
