RE: Sunset in NY law
on opening day of shotgun every year i pass the time away sitting there waiting for deer and legal shooting time, listening and counting how many shots are fired before legal time.most years i will go by this sunrise and sunset limit.but i always am in the stand before daylight and usauly stay past dark.the reason for this law is 15 min after sunset or 10 or 15 min before dark you still can see right infront or under you,the problem is you can't see beyond that.there maybe someone walking out of the woods 100 yards out and could get cought in a cross fire.now to answer the question, would i shoot before or after legal time.yes, but only from a tree stand and straight under me.i would not concider doing it from a ground stand,to risky can't see beyond the target.but straight down or out to a 30 degree angle from a tree stand you can see beyond your target, nothing but ground.it is a violation but i think most hunters will do it if the situation is just right.
