Although the threads on pre 64 and post 64 model 70's are the same (.995 X 16), the pre 64 has a cone shaped cut going into the chamber entrance and a majorextractor cut for the controlled feed extractor. The newer Winchester sportershave a flat cut coming off the back of the chamber. So they are not really interchangable - although a good gunsmith can make it work for around $75 or so.
