Default Win. Model 70 Pre-'64 Barrel Question

I am looking for some input on a question. Hopefully someone can tell me. I inherited a pre-'64 Winchester Model 70 from my grandfather. When he first purchased the gun in the '40's, he had the barrel changed to a shorter after market one for hutning in the Northeast. However, I live out west and use the gun for mule deer, antelope and elk. I would like to get a little longer barrel on it. Most of the barrels I find will require work on the stock to make it fit (carving wood out). I really do not want to do this. I recently found a barrel that looks identical to the one I currently have on there. The question I have is that the seller is telling me it is a POST-'64 barrel. Are these not compatible with eachother? Would I be able to use the post-'64 barrel to replace the pre-'64 one? I am no expert by any means, so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
