It could be him, but it could also be the ammo. all my handguns are particular to ammo not so much brands but projectile weight. he may try shooting a lighter grain bullet. I know the XD's sights are set for service weight bullets for the particular caliber its chambered for. Id recommend trying 125 grain ammo before ruling out that theres something wrong with the gun. good luck
