Mr Longbeard, I hear ya. I too got burned on a Savage, Mine was an 11FNS .308 Accutrigger that was a 1.3" gun on its best days. Never again. If I had to choose amoungst the current crop of factory varminters, I would take a Remington 700 VS SFII. Outstanding accuracy, and possibly the best trigger (for target-varmint work) currently available. With that said, What I would actually do (and did) would be to buy an older used LV or HV bench gun. You'll pay less and get better accuracy.
