Strictly opinion. And to your point, I think you'd honestly have to put them through a chrony to see the speed difference. To the naked eye? Forget about it.
I think some think the Allegiance's longer a-to-a provided a wee bit more stable platform, and that
knowledge of it being a bit faster (again, you know it but probably can't physically see it) tips the tables to the Allegiance.
Although the 31 1/2" axle-to-axle on the Trib provides a bit more maneuverability, the 34" Ally is pretty compact, too. Now you see why some people have such a hard time choosing. Maybe that's why I got both.
