Default RE: Best Elk Hunting Date in CO.

the first of the season has its advantages and disadvantages compared to later in the season. Early season , bulls haven't been hunted for several months and aren't at the top other thier game,, yet. This advantage really goes downhill once the muzzleloader toatin' gang hits the woods. Although, early season is usually warmer, if not hot! But, if you no where the preffered water source is, this could be an advantage. Early season, and warmer temps. usually means that you have to have other sources for cooling the meat down, instead of letting mother nature do it for you!
Labor day weekend is also a very popular weekend for the weekend camper/mtn. biker/hiker. Seems they can sometimes be in the wrong spot at the wrong times.
The best time to go, is when the first snow falls, even if it's just a skif!!
Hope ya have a good hunt, when ever ya choose to come, I would suggest hunting some time before the muzzleloaders do!
