I really think it is all a matter of preference. Some people absoluty hate peeps. I have rifles with Williams Peeps, Thompson Center Peeps, and Lyman Peeps. I find them all very accurate but they also have drawback when light gets low. The best is the Lyman Peep. I can see clearest in low light with that peep. My Thompson Center Peep when the lighting is good is the most accurate of all my peeps.
I seriously considered a Lyman 57SMET for the Ultra Mag but after going with removable mounts on a Nikon Pro Staff I see no need for it. The fiber optic sights are fine out to 100 yards for me, and that's about as far as I care to shoot with open sights. Also where I hunt that's about as far as I ever would have to shoot.
Many years ago, we had a refrigerator cardboard box we set up in a field. With a Thompson Center Peep I was able to shoot out to 150 yards once I learned the drop of the ball, off a bench rest. We taped a white Paper Plate to the carton and it stuck out like a sore thumb. So peeps are a good thing for taking longer shots I guess.
Hey Cayugad, How do you like the Nikon? I love my Nikon Buckmaster scope. When I go back tothe Tasco on my Knight Bighorn rifle, I am wondering who turned out the lights and took the carity out of things. Makes me want to go get my eyes checked!! I can see another scope purchase for the Knight in the very near future!!! Probably before this coming season. May consider one of those Busnell Banners. Anything has got to be better than the Tasco!!! Hope you enjoy the new optics and the new Ultra Mag!!
