What a jerk!
He may not agree with hunting or want hunters on his land, but to keep you from recovering a deer that is already dead is wasteful and ignorant. You did do the right thing by asking first. Very sorry to hear that he doesn't understand us yet.
It's your choice whether you want to cross the line of going in after in without permission, but I certainly wouldn't fault you for complying with the guy's wishes.
