and pardoned in 1990
A presidential pardon?.....Really?.....
This removes the record.....more likely you mean he was released.
To be put on probation is the same as a guilty verdict. This is a felony and the laws are clear.....
The rules for buying a gun ask about felonies.....not violent crimes.
True! However, at least in some States, a person with a felony conviction can request, and be granted, a
"Certificate of Relief from Disabilities", restoring their right to possess firearms,(among other rights, like voting, etc.) from the court in which he was convicted.
The "pardon" idea is a new one to me, I have never dealt with a person who was pardoned! Was this an executive pardon granted by the Governor of the state, or the POTUS?? If so, the question now becomes "did this pardon completely wipe outthis guys's felony conviction, as if he were never convicted of anything in the first place? If so, he needs to get an attorney and have the state's conviction record expunged! That way, the next time NICS does a check, they will find nothing!
If his "pardon" was not a complete, unconditional one, he needs to apply to the court where he was convicted to have his right to own a gun restored via whatever mechanism Louisians has set up for such things.. This then would be up to the judge of that court to decide!
