Default RE: turtle creek 5/27

Just got back from a shooting scouting trip down to Turtle creek on Saturday. Got there just before 8am. Was to meet snuffy at 9. he forgot his release so was half hour late. After launching, I took off across the lake to the Right into all the fingers. As I got closer to one bay, i could see them splashing and had their backs out of the water. Lots and lots of fish. They were laying up against the back slupring what ever. As you went around you could hear this slurping and smacking. Went back and hung out around the dock from 9 to 9:30 when snuffy got there. I only had 7 in the boat, all the same size- we call them football carp- 3-5#. And For KBI-Pres sake I counted 12 snakes, all common water snakes, but one black snake, again they were all the same size. Snuffy and I spent most of the day, just driving around and checking it all out. We did find some places that seemed not to have too many fish tho. But that is for you to find out. Got to be careful, some shallow places out in water where you would not expect it. The lake was high and cloudier that a month before when I was there. We ended up with 27 total count and did miss a coupla in the 10# range. I was having 808 problems with both reels that I brought. The catch pin would not totally retract and when you pushed the button it would not release. It really gave me some grief. I took it back to the camper, sprayed it with wd40 and ground down the pin on a grinding wheel just a bit. I can tell you one thing Alex is right there will be some big numbers. and the largest fish will be by ounces by difference. It is a really nice lake, lots of bays and fingers to get out of the wind. Hopefull it will be lower and cleaner by June 24. see ya there.
